Gang and set affiliations really all come from where you grow up. The set affiliation is really what matters at the end of the day. Basically 2 brothers who grew up in different houses in different areas could end up in different sets and claiming different gangs too.

If everybody in one set is a GD, the one brother will end up claiming GD and that set. If the other brother ends up in a BD neighborhood he'll end up claiming BD and that set.
